Preview how your title and meta description look in Google on desktop and mobile, with pixel widths and truncation warnings.
How long should a title be?
Google cuts title links by pixel width, not characters. On desktop the visible width is roughly 600 pixels of 20px Arial, which is usually 50 to 60 characters. Wide letters like W and M use more space than i or l, so two titles with the same character count can display differently. This tool measures the actual pixel width in your browser.
Meta descriptions
Google often rewrites descriptions using text from the page that better matches the search. A good description still matters: when Google uses it, it's your pitch. Aim for 120 to 155 characters that state the offer, a proof point and the next step.
What makes a title get clicked
- The words the searcher typed, near the start
- A specific detail: a location, a price range, a year, a number
- Your brand at the end, short
Google may also rewrite titles it considers boilerplate or stuffed with keywords. Keep them accurate and unique per page.
