Being everywhere is the most common reason small businesses burn out on marketing. Most get the majority of results from two or three channels. Here's how to pick them.

Start with the business model

  • Local service (clinic, salon, repair, coaching): Google Business Profile and Maps, Google search, WhatsApp, then Instagram for proof.
  • Shop, restaurant or hotel: Maps, Instagram, the dominant booking or delivery platform, Google.
  • Online store: Google Shopping free listings, Google search, Instagram or Pinterest, Amazon or the regional marketplace.
  • Marketplace seller: the marketplace itself first, then YouTube reviews and Google.
  • B2B services and software: Google, LinkedIn, AI answers, Reddit for software.
  • Creators and educators: YouTube first, then Instagram and Google.

Check the country

Platform use differs by market. TikTok has been blocked in India since 2020. WhatsApp is how many customers in India, Brazil, Indonesia, Africa and the Gulf prefer to contact businesses, but much less so in the US or Japan. Google isn't the leading search engine in China (Baidu), South Korea (Naver) or Russia (Yandex).

Know the audiences

Match the goal

Enquiries come mostly from Google, Maps and WhatsApp. Online sales from Shopping, marketplaces and Instagram. Brand awareness from Instagram, YouTube and TikTok. App installs from app stores and short video.

Commit for 90 days

Pick two channels, set one measurable goal for each (calls from the profile, sales from Shopping, enquiries from Instagram DMs) and review monthly. Add a third only when the first two run without you.

The RankSEOGrow report scores all 22 platforms for your model, goal and country and lists the first actions for each.
